The historical information about Ponti sul Mincio Castle are not confirmed because there are not monographic studies and archive researches. The only news we have about the Castle are those ones that result from generic studies.
The construction of the Castle dates back to a period of time that goes between XII and XIV centuries, probably XIII century. The Castle was built on Scaligeris initiative; the Castle, together with the Castles of Monzambano, Valeggio, Nogarole, Peschiera, Sirmione and other ones constituted the Scaligeris’ south-west system on the borderline with the territories belonging to the Viscontis and the Gonzagas.
The surrounding wall is made up of river cobblestones; it has merlons, the great majority collapsed, with paths protruding on brick shelves, partially collapsed too.
There are equidistant defence towers along the surrounding wall. A protector tower is placed on the north part of the Castle and two towers placed as a „C“ letter opened towards the inner part are on every single side of the building. Two closed towers, the smaller one used as a clock tower and the taller one (mastio) placed near the ancient entrance door, are located in the south part of the Castle.
Today, the entrance door is hedged-in a ravelin while in ancient times a lift bridge was joined with the flyover coming from the village. Today, the same road is invaded by vegetation and included into the parsonage garden.
The structure of the Castle is a basic equivalent of the Scaligeris castle, that is a kind of castle – fence that is conformed to the natural conditions of the place where it rises.
