This building is exceptional testimony to the late 15C custom of painting architecture or celebratory images on the facades of noble mansions. This one was probably frescoed by close colleagues of Andrea Mantegna between 1495 and 1500.
As well as other decorative elements, the facade presents a classical portrayal: an episode exemplifying the life and clemency of Alexander the Great inspired by a passage from Latin writer Quinto Curzio Rufo’s Histories of Alexander the Great.
