Oratory of St Andrea di Ghisione

Sant'Andrea oratory in Ghisione village is the parish artistic treasure; it stands where once was a Roman villa. It is an original terracotta Romanesque building with three apses. In XV century, they built the bell tower. Almost no decoration remains inside.

Historians always thought that this small structure dedicated to St. Andrew the Apostle was built on the orders of countess Matilda of Tuscany. Recently, professor Leo Citelli found a document of 15 March 1117 (guarded in San Benedetto in Polirone monastery) attesting that the monastery bought the oratory from Alberto Di Coenzo and his wife Matilda. So, a case of homonymy.
