Historically a place of special devotion to the Virgin Mary, this is one of the best-preserved and most evocative mediaeval churches in the Mantua area, partly because of its isolated location, surrounded as it is by ditches and fields.
The style suggests that it dates from the 12C. Decorative highlights include the terracotta cornice, an unusual porch and a beautiful bell tower. Inside, the single space contains an interesting fresco cycle dating from the 13C-14C.
