This parish lay in the imperial feud of the Marchese Ippoliti and did not join the diocese of Mantua until the feud was suppressed, in the early 19C.
Named after the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Hyppolitus, the memory of this church’s remarkable history is conserved in the arms of the old archpriests, frescoed in the atrium of the sacristy. Artistic treasures of the 18C church are its coeval paintings, including a John the Baptist Preaching by Giuseppe Bazzani and six monochromes by Giovanni Cadioli depicting the Baptism of Jesus, St Cecilia and four scenes from the Life of St Hyppolitus.
Inside the church is an organ assembled by Domenico Vergine in 1958 in an 18C wind-chest with recycled material from the so-called 'old organ’, dismantled by Agostino Benzi in 1944. The organ was fully restored in 2011 thanks to joint funding from the Fondazione Cariplo.
