Descrizione

It is a national monument and the local community still uses it. They built it in 1899-1902; it contains wonderful XVIII century original furniture.

Present via Govi temple is the faithful early XX century rebuilding of former private Norsa Torrazzo synagogue, which was in the ghetto already in 1480. Today this synagogue, which is also a national monument, is the only one remained of six that were in Jewish Mantua.
Inside the hall, the Holy Ark (Aron ha-Kodesh) with the Scrolls of the Law (Meghilloth - Toràh) is on the east side; on the right side there is a wooden richly carved pulpit (Tevàh) with embroidered paraments. A beautiful wrought steel frame runs all over the hall bearing wrought steel chandeliers with the name of the family.
The large building hosts not only the synagogue, but also the Jewish community base and Associazione Culturale Mantova Ebraica – id est the Jewish Mantua cultural association.
On the upper floor there are an historical (1522–1861) and an administrative (1861-onwards) archive, XIX century sacred sheet music, registers of marital status and Jewish tribunal judgements.
