Parco del Moro

The local park supra del Moro extends for about 350 hectares in the Province of Mantova, in the municipality of Casalmoro, in the geographical middle of Mantua which is bordered on the west by the province of Brescia. The park aims to protect a significant portion of the territory crossed by the River Churches that defines an important ecological corridor region. The shape of the scope is of great interest, showing a structure in land depressed and bumps, marked by the ancient riverbeds to meandering river. The Church runs today in a deep riverbed engraved between the banks that host important forests hygrophilous enriched by diverse plant and animal species. The territory of PLIS offers the opportunity to attend both semi spheres that anthropogenic areas through a network of bicycle and pedestrian use. In the end a more natural texture trees and shrubs varies due to the shift away from the shore. Remarkable is the presence in the river stretch affected by PLIS of peculiar forest formations - the willow shelters - have disappeared along the rest from the river, and some veteran trees including some specimens of English oak and ash, black poplar and white willow, classified as monumental trees by the Province of Mantova. The area also boasts the presence of a historical-monumental spread composed mainly of minor architecture: short and rural farmhouses, mills, manufacturing plants related to river activities. Among the architectural, related to the material culture of the area, there are two former screening plants that are located north of Casalmoro; the park has a rest area designed to function as a privileged point for observation and enjoyment of nature. On the perimeter of the village, overlooking the ridges bordering the river embankments, the Court has set Castello, example of rural villa of the Renaissance period that has influences of the Gonzaga period fancelliano (XV sec.).
