Descrizione

The present church, named after Mary and St Mary Magdalene, patron saint of parachutists, was built to a design by Professor Lino Morselli in the 1960s to commemorate those who died in the famous Operation Herring. Completed relatively quickly and inaugurated on 30 April 1965, it has a highly original structure that soars into the sky in the form of hands joined in prayer, reaching up to the zenith from which the paratroopers descended.

A stone was erected at Ca’ Bruciata in memory of their sacrifice in 1960 and, in 1975, a street was named after Paratrooper Lieutenant F. Bagna, who was killed there with his men.
