Corte Grande

This is one of the most significant examples of the large, open rural corte type that is most prevalent on the left side of the River Mincio. They appeared in the age of the comuni and seigniories, a time when rural estates were reorganised around the corte administrative bodies.

The complex comprises a central main residence, flanked by workers’ dwellings, and is completed at the ends by large open barns for produce and equipment storage. Opposite the buildings, arranged linearly, is the large threshing floor, where the main local product of rice was amassed. The corte dates from the late17C.
