Built around the mid-15C to a design by Luca Fancelli, this mansion belonged to the noble Gonzaga family and was known as the Corte Piccola del Poggio until the mid-19C, when it became the property of Senator Tullo Massarani, who then sold it in 1904 to Poggio Rusco.
The municipal offices were transferred there the following year. The crenellation was hidden after 1945 by an unattractive layer of plaster but has now reappeared, after the facade was restored and cleaned by the architect Spelta in the late 1980s.
The building has undergone some internal alterations but, as a whole, retains its original structure: the entrance hall, the Sala Consiliare, with remains of restored frescoes, and the staircase to the upper floor, partially frescoed and with a fine coffered ceiling. The complex was entered through an archway surmounted by a triangular pediment resting on two pilasters, closed by a wrought-iron gate after 1945. To the east of the building was a tower similar to the present Torre Falconiera.
