This building presents the typical features of a villa but originated as a public palazzo. Gazoldo was a feud of the Ippoliti family, which had strong aspirations for autonomy even during Gonzaga rule.
Gazoldo was literally governed by this family which had the authority to coin its own money so it is not surprising that the building should incorporate public functions, nor its location in the urban area. In a certain sense, the political and territorial position of the Ippoliti feud could not have minimised any of the aulic features peculiar to similar buildings in different political and urban contexts.
