Descrizione

This little chapel is of ancient origin. In the year 841, the bishop of Brescia gave it to the monks of San Benedetto da Polirone in the nearby monastery of the Annunciata.

It later became a votive chapel dedicated to the ‘Morti di San Vito’ because used as a burial place for victims of the plague that struck the Mantua area in 1630. The chapel also contains the remains of French soldiers who died on 24 June 1859 in a battle against the Austrians (battle ended on the same day in Solferino and San Martino).
