Commenced in the second half of the 17C and completed in 1687, the present church replaced an older parish church that stood outside the village, near the old castle. In 1710, the stones of the old church were recycled to build the bell-tower.
Inside the large facade, on two tiers separated by a cornice in relief, is a spacious interior with a nave (five chapels per side) frescoed with 18C illusionistic decorations, mostly the work of Giovanni Majocchi, also known as Motta.
The most interesting paintings are a Renaissance-style Our Lady of Carmel, a St Jerome in late-Renaissance style and a fine 17C St Anthony of Padua. See also the 15C wooden statue of the Virgin of Mercy and a Baroque one of St Vincent Ferrer. In the presbytery is a beautiful altar antependium in black marble with polychrome inlay, purchased in 1754. St Bartholomew is celebrated on 24 August.
