Princes' Palace

Construction appears to date from 1400 and is linked to Ludovico Gonzaga, portrayed in the frescoes on the facade, beneath the Gonzaga arms. The building had been the seat of the Gonzaga vicariate in Castiglione and then became the hub of the Prince’s political power over the comune. Luca Fancelli provided suggestions for the central section.

In the early 19C, a piece of gallery and some rooms were incorporated into the buildings of the Teatro Sociale, inaugurated in 1843. The finest frescoes are on the upper floor.
