Madonna dell`assedio

This holy image was placed at one end of the east Portico delle Pescherie (erected by Giulio Romano in 1535) as a public thank you to Our Lady for protecting the city during the French siege, as stated on the plaques beside it, accompanied by artillery ammunition collected on that occasion.
