This church was built in or around 1582 for Scipione Gonzaga and over the remains of an earlier religious building (demolished when it fell into decay) and a fortified tower, of which traces remain at the base of the bell-tower.
The current facade is later, dating from the 18C, and in its centre is an image of the saint to whom the church is dedicated, in the act of cutting his cloak in two to give half to the poor man at his side. Beside it are four statues representing the four patron saints of the town: on the left St Boniface and St Fortunatus, on the right St Florus and St Reparatus.
The church has a nave with three chapels on either side. Following the collapse of the roof in 1990, only a single fragment of the coffered ceiling can now be admired. The alcoves lining the nave contain 16C stucco statues of apostles and prophets.
