Descrizione

The river rises in the Roverbella area, at Castiglione Mantovano. It was first named in 1208 after the Latin verbs esse et exire, or gushing from the land.

At Castelbelforte, the River Essere long marked the boundary between the Mantua and  Verona areas. With the creation of the Molinella and Conduttore canals, its course has undergone considerable changes and even partially strayed from its original route.

Today, at the point where the River Essere enters Castelbelforte, it gives rise to the Fossetta Conduttore and, once past the houses, it divides into another two watercourses: the Scolo Essere and the Scolo Paradello. The three canals then flow into the Conduttore canal. The River Essere returns to its route in Castel d'Ario, at Via Oriano, after receiving the water of the Esserone, Molinella and a network of catchment drains in the Susano countryside. Once past Castel d'Ario, the River Essere splits into several waterways including one called the Essere Vecchio, which flows into the River Tione at Moratica, in the Verona municipality of Sorgà.
