Convent of Santa Maria

Named for the presence of the Conventual Franciscan Order, from the 16C until the early 19C it was linked to numerous historical episodes.

The history of settlement here spans from the Etruscan civilisation to the present day and its sense of history lives on. It conserves the remains of the Etruscan water spring, traces of a Roman villa, a piece of the 16C church annexed to the convent, part of the convent building used for residential purposes by the Gonzaga family of Castiglione delle Stiviere and the room where St Aloysius Gonzaga retreated to pray.
