Oratory Santa Maria Prima from Navarolo banks

In 1824, the noble and affluent local Pagliari family commissioned the architect Giuseppe Cantoni of Mantua to build a family oratory.

The chosen location was one of their holdings, outside the town along the left bank of the ‘River Commessaggio’, not far from the site of the oldest local church, which bore the old name of ‘Santa Maria in Ripa d'Adda’ and had been demolished some years earlier.

The small new church was dedicated to the Our Blessed Lady of Graces but it is known locally as Santa Maria Prima.
