Church of St Sebastian

The Castle church is dedicated to St. Sebastian, one of the first and most venerated Roman martyrs, who was a former soldier of the emperor and a new soldier of Christ.

The church was built in 1577 on the orders of marquis Ferrante Gonzaga, the father of St. Aloysius, when this one was nine and chose it for his prayers.
This is why it is considered one of the most important Aloysian places in Castiglione. From 1610 to 1679, the church hosted St. Aloysius' relics, come from Rome, and became a basilica.

The church is open again for the faithful, after the recent restoration.
