Descrizione

They tell many stories about the 'Good Death' church, but very few documents attest them.

This XVII century church almost looks like a common building, except for the peculiar checked façade with three cusps and crosses over the pediment. Four windows enlighten the interiors, as a frescoed Deposition lays over the white marble entrance portal. The fresco was possibly painted in XVIII century by Marcantonio Bosio and Antonio Saraceni, who also painted the major altar piece.
The one nave interiors have very elegant lines and host many paintings. In the middle of the ceiling, a fresco in a Baroque frame depicts an Apocalypse scene: the archangel Michael is saving the Child from a drake. The vault is decked with vegetable decorations. A XVII century Deposition painting hangs on the left wall; the same subject lays on the banner of the Buona Morte confraternity.
On the right wall, a wooden Crucifix over a red pall hangs; it was long venerated, and several ex-votos surround it. On the presbytery vault, two angels are offering a rose crown to Our Lady of the Assumption, who was depicted in the altar piece by Marcantonio Bosio and Antonio Saraceni. Two period torch-bearer angels stand beside the altar. Over the choir an organ furniture without mechanisms stands; still, there are two pews richly carved.

The sacristy holds period furniture, such as an ancient choir, a precious two-door sideboard, a Renaissance wardrobe and a chest of drawers with three small doors. They think many furniture to have been carved by the Ceratelli's from Medole. Among the rest, a list with the names of 60 confraternity members hangs on a sacristy wall. Still, a Crucifix hangs which they used to bring on procession every five years till mid XX century.

The Buona Morte quarter is celebrating every year for three days the Crucifix Day, on the first Monday after St. Martin's Day (11 November). Every five years (last time in 2008), the celebration becomes a village fair focused on a religious procession.
