Descrizione

Mantua records the Carmelite presence as far back as 1316 and their former convent (1444) is now the seat of the Intendenza di Finanza in Via Pomponazzo.

The Order left the city around the late 18C. The church and convent were then altered by the architect Paolo Pozzo and turned into the customs offices. The two old Renaissance cloisters, adorned with a dual tier of arches resting on elegant columns, are splendidly designed.
