Church of St Pietro Apostolo

This is the old church of the Augustinians, who arrived in Bozzolo in 1518, and was built in the 1560s-70s. The fine bell-tower dates from 1606. The solemn and majestic interior, with a nave and two aisles featuring five chapels on each side, was entirely frescoed and richly decorated by Verona painter Gaetano Miolato between 1926 and 1929. At the end of the right aisle, beneath a powerful Crucifixion painted by Borbone, is the tomb of Don Primo Mazzolari, the parish priest of Bozzolo from 1932 until his death in 1959, and created in 1969 to a sketch by the sculptor Giacomo Manzù.
