Monument to the Martyrs in Belfiore

The monument was inaugurated in present piazza Sordello, on 7 December 1872; it contained the mortal remains of the patriots executed by the Austrians in Belfiore. Later it was seriously slashed, and they inaugurated it again on 5 June 1887.
On 27 September 1930, it was dismembered: the remains and portraits of the dead went to San Sebastiano temple, the statue of Indipendence went to Palazzo Ducale, while the plaques went to Risorgimento museum.
In 2002, the Municipality of Mantua stipulated to reassemble it and to place it in Belfiore.
