The parish church is an impressive Gothic-Revival building dating from the second half of the 18C (built between 1865 and 1871).
It was badly damaged by air raids in 1944-45 when the west arm of the transept was gutted, the ceiling and brick vaulting smashed and the stained-glass windows destroyed. During the subsequent reconstruction and restoration, the altar of St Anthony was redesigned and painted, and the church was embellished with new stained-glass windows depicting stories from the Saint’s life. Extensive work was carried out to improve the building’s stability.
The bell-tower was begun in the 18C but not completed, so to speak, until after the war, although this does not detract from its majestic appearance.
