Gonzaga Tower (Torrazzo Gonzaghesco)

Is the symbol of the village of Commessaggio. Built in 1583 according to the orders of the Gonzaga family, its main purpose was that of a customs tower and as a barracks for the watch guard soldiers. At the base of the quadrangular tower there is the classical sloped base called a “shoe”, on top of which there is a round edge. The severe shape of the tower extends for almost 30 meters and at the top there are 48apertures. Inside a spiral staircase with 123 steps in white marble connects the three vaulted-ceilinged halls.
