DAY 1
Mantua and San Benedetto Po
Morning
If you leave from Mantua for a trip around the lakes on a motorboat you can even carry your bicycle along. The trip will take you down the Mincio, through the Governolo basin down to the Po. Once you have landed at the outskirts of San Benedetto Po you can easily reach the centre of the town by bicycle, riding along the bank path. You can have lunch at a restaurant on the main square of San Benedetto Po.
Afternoon
Visit to the Polirone Monastery complex, with
the 15th century Abbey Church, the 15th century cloisters of San Simeone, San Benedetto and of the Seculars, the 16th century cellars, the monks’ refectory, the City Museum and the outside areas of Piazza Matilde di Canossa and Piazza Teofilo Folengo. Wine tasting and mid-afternoon break at the Tourism Office in Piazza Matilde di Canossa. You will then continue on your way to a farmhouse to have dinner.
A visit to the astronomical observatory in Gorgo might be a nice way to round off the day. You can either spend the night at the farmhouse or in the campers and caravans parking area.
DAY 2
Nature, silence, slow tourism
Morning
You will leave for Moglia, for a cycling visit to the Ecomuseum of the Reclamations: 14 kms of cycling and pedestrian paths on the banks of the channels and of the Secchia river, with stops available at the orientation areas, provided with information panels in the cycling and pedestrian path “Eurovelo 7”.
Lunch in a farmhouse or restaurant along the way.
Afternoon
Option A
Visit to the Museum of the ancient farming civilisation in Moglia and to the pig and folklore traditions exhibit.
Option B
Transfer to Sermide for a visit to a dairy shop or to the Environmental Education Centre at the former cableway station.
Return in the evening.
