Chiese river crosses the western part of Mantua province from Casalmoro to South of Canneto, where it flows into Oglio river.
ASOLA is an important manufacturing town. It was a Venice outpost for centuries; its magnificent cathedral still bears signs of Venice architectural influence. It is a Gothic church decked with Romanino's and Moretto's paintings and frescos, a XVI century organ by Antegnati and a beautiful Mercy polyptyc.
In the parish church of ACQUANEGRA SUL CHIESE it is possible to admire a series of medieval frescos, remains of a floor mosaic and a XVI century organ. Not far from there, a former meander of Oglio river became the BINE nature and fauna reserve: this is a shrub area of lower Oglio river natural park, where many resident and migratory birds live.
The renowned Malongola oratory is in FONTANELLA GRAZIOLI; although it looks very humble outside, it is fully decked with frescos inside.
CANNETO SULL'OGLIO was celebrated for its dolls production: there, you can visit the Superti Furga museum and its toys and dolls collections. Still, you may visit Sant'Antonio Abate parish church – which hosts six interesting wooden statues depicting the Passion – and XVII century Chiesa dei Morti, id est church of the dead.
