San Giacomo delle Segnate lays on eastern Secchia riverbank. Its name comes likely from its boundary (segnatura, in Italian) position during past centuries. Baroque San Giacomo Maggiore Apostolo church (1778), which is in the village centre, retains pieces by Mantuan painter Lanfranco (1948-1954). On the road to Poggio Rusco, you see villa Arrigona (1640), a kind of manor which reminds of Palazzo Te architecture: this residence was built by Antonio Maria Viani, and it is made of a XVII century villa, a Baroque oratory, a park and fields.
In San Giacomo delle Segnate, you can visit villa “Cà di Pom”, which painter Vanni Viviani gave to BAM Foundation to make it a cultural and exhibit centre in this area: it is a XVIII century building with a brick façade, a three nave stable, a long porch - barchessa in Italian -, a wide garden with a little lake.
Still, you may visit Villa Rezzaghi, former Malcantone pits – which is going to be a nature reserve -, Hoffmann Furnace – a good example of industrial archaeology -, beautiful Elvira and Aldegatta farms. In Malcantone, via Donismonda, you can see Malcantone farm and Sacra Famiglia oratory.
