Virgilio lies just south of Mantua.
In 1884, it took the official name “Virgilio”, instead of its previous Quattroville, to celebrate the Latin poet Virgil, who was born in Andes, Pietole hamlet.
Virgilio includes today Cerese, Pietole and Cappelletta hamlets.
It was inhabited already in very ancient times, as recently discovered finds from the Mesolithic ages say.
