Rocca sull`Osone

This is all that survives of the old Serraglio, a fortified zone outside the triangular walls, south of Mantua, that extended from the city of Mantua to the River Po, the River Mincio and the so-called Fossa di Curtatone; this artificial canal, dug on the west side, drew its waters from Lake Superiore and flowed into the River Po, at Borgoforte, blocking the road to those arriving from the west. The house, parallelepiped in shape and with a raised central block, has windows on all sides and dates from 1448.

The building is linked to the memory of the battle, on 29 May 1848, when the retreating Tuscans opened their way towards Castellucchio, sustaining attacks from the Austrians. Palazzo del Diavolo is a villa with garden built in the mid 18C and currently in a poor state of repair. The complex has an L-shaped arrangement and consists in several constructions; a chapel also stands inside the boundary of the villa.
