Sabbioncello pumping station

The Sabbioncello pumping station was completed in 1957 and straddles the main Quingentole riverbank. It draws water from the River Po to irrigate 60,000 hectares of land in the provinces of Modena, Mantua and Ferrara.

The station can draw up to 20m3 of water/second with six centrifugal pumps, driven by as many electrical motors. The water flows into the Sabbioncello canal, one of the most important in the Oltrepò Mantovano area, which conveys it to the vast irrigation area. The station belongs to the Consorzio della Bonifica Burana.
