These culverts bear testimony to hydraulic engineering in the Oltrepò area on the left bank of the River Secchia before the extensive Parmigiana-Moglia reclamation works (1920 and 1926), when water from the area drained by gravity into the River Secchia.
Traces of the construction are recorded in documents from the 15C, where they are called the Chiaviche Bellone. The present building, visibly decayed, dates from 1836. Its hydraulic function ceased in or around 1930.
