Pomponesco – town centre

The orthogonal layout of the streets reflects the town-planning project by  Giulio Cesare Gonzaga at the end of the XVI century, which included the building of a pentagonal castle surrounded by walls with the home of the lord in the centre. Today the area of the proprietor’s courtyard has been transformed into a beautiful square surrounded by arcades overlooked by the  Town Hall and the Arcipretale di Saint Felicity and the 7 Martyr Brothers, a building which has existed since the XIV century. Towards Dosolo we find the lovely hamlet of  Correggioverde with its noteworthy eighteenth century parish church of Our Lady of the Assumption, work of the architect Pietro Antonio Maggi
