Descrizione

Volta Mantovana lies just south of the morainal hills, 120 m above the sea level; it is inhabited since the Bronze Ages. Then it was inhabited by Celts, Etruscans and Romans. During the Middle Ages, German tribes invaded it often, till it became a part of Canossa dominion: in that period, it was a walled village, with a castle and a Romanesque parish, while farmhouses and hamlets (such as Cereta) spread around its countryside. As it underwent the Gonzaga seigniory, Ludovico Gonzaga (XV century) made a family residence out of the castle.
Today, Volta Mantovana is a lively village, which hosts several festivals, such as the sweet wines national expo or “A Volta per Star Bene” - a morainal hills food and wine expo.
