Quingentole name is likely from Latin quingenti – id est fifty -, with reference to the territory size (50 jugers). Some archaeological finds confirmed it was already inhabited during Roman ages.
You should pay a visit to early XV century Episcopal Villa – hosting the local government building today -, which Giulio Romano richly decorated in XVI century. Still, you might see Baroque San Lorenzo church (1751-54), which façade includes two red marble lions from the former Gothic façade of Mantua cathedral. Inside, you can appreciate canvases by Schivenoglia and Giovanni Cadioli.
You should not miss San Lorenzo oratory, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Loreto, which was built after 1751 using materials from previous XI century parish church.
There is also a small tourist river port on Po river.
