There are several nature reserves in Mantua province, such as Mincio river natural park, lower Oglio river natural park, Le Bine reserve, Marcarla turbaries, Ostiglia marshes, Isola Boschina and Isola Boscone.
Mincio river natural park was founded with Lombardy regional law n. 47/84.
It lies on both Mincio riverbanks, from Lake Garda to Po river, in Governolo.
The park itself hosts several nature reserves, such as the ones in Castellaro Lagusello and on the morainal hills, Valli del Mincio between Rivalta and Grazie, and Vallazza – just downstream Lago Inferiore. Not only, but even Parco delle Bertone - which is also a sanctuary for white stork - and Bosco della Fontana – which is ran by Corpo Forestale dello Stato, id est national foresters -, where you can admire an ancient Gonzaga family's manor.
Lower Oglio river natural park was founded with Lombardy regional law n. 17/88
It lies between Cremona and Mantova. It hosts Le Bine nature reserve, Valli di Mosio turbaries, Marcarla turbaries, Sant’Alberto and Boschina Mostizza flood plains and the Oglio river outfall willow plantation.
In Basso Mantovano, region Lombardy founded the Ostiglia marshes nature reserve in 1983, which is recognized by Ramsar Convention.
Sailing along Po river between Ostiglia and Carbonara di Po, you will find Isola Boschina nature reserve – which is even recognized as a biotope – and Isola Boscone – which is the lungs of this stretch of Po river.
